‘double buffet nouvelle zélande’ 2010, aluminum, 110 x 290 x 37 cm

the work of french artist vincent dubourg combines found objects and traditional
carpentry techniques to create ‘a dialogue between man and nature’ resulting in
functional sculptures. using discarded objects like suitcases, chairs, and lamp shades,
dubourg transforms them into finished pieces with woven tree branches, blown glass
and metal castings that balance between furniture and intriguing forms.

on display at the carpenters workshop gallery in london, are eight of his most
recent works which reveal the violent deconstruction of form and manipulation
of materials. the viewer is presented with a view into the interior space of an
object while examining the deconstruction of the original classic form
and the creation of a new form and function.

there is a desire to know the origin of shape in order to remove it from
its context and deconstruct its form. the destruction is necessary for the
construction of a new order. it is irreversible and necessary, just as in nature.’
